Fire-induced changes in soil properties depend on age and type of forests

چکیده

Abstract Wildfires affect different physical, chemical, and hydraulic soil properties, the magnitude of their effects varies depending on intrinsic properties wildfire characteristics. The objectives this study are: to estimate impact heating temperature (50–900°C) sandy (Arenosol) taken in 1) coniferous forests (Scots pine Pinus sylvestris ) ages (30 100 years); 2) deciduous (alder Alnus glutinosa same age years). are located central part Borská nížina lowland (western Slovakia), treated were organic carbon content (SOC), pH, water repellency (measured terms drop penetration time, WDPT). It was found that is great depends both type forest. SOC value decreased unevenly with all three soils, it higher 30-year-old forest than soil. pH increased monotonously from 200 °C, 100-year-old WDPT Results obtained (decrease SOC, disappearance SWR after 400 increase °C) bring important information for post-fire vegetation restoration management Central European established

Root-induced changes in nutrient cycling in forests depend on exudation rates

(1) While it is well-known that trees release carbon (C) to soils as root exudates, the factors that control the magnitude and biogeochemical impacts of this flux are poorly understood. (2) We quantified root exudation and microbially-mediated nutrient fluxes in the rhizosphere for four ~80 year-old tree species in a deciduous hardwood forest, Indiana, USA. We hypothesized that trees that exude...

Assessment of Effect of Road or Road Construction on Soil Physical and Chemical Properties in Northern Forests of Iran

Forests are an important economic source for human and have key role in nutrient cycle, hydrology and ecosystem performance, any interference in this vital ecosystem causes to damage to forests. Mechanical logging and road construction in forest areas have led to much soil compaction. Soil physical and chemical properties were studied in parts of road and non-road in the Darabkola forest of Ira...
